The radical Muslim cleric, Omar Bakri, has threatened terrorist attacks against the Balkan countries as they represent "territories that belong to Islam".
In an interview with the Bulgarian newspaper, 24 Chasa, the Syrian-born radical cleric Omar Bakri Muhammad, said that Islam is under obligation to eventually liberate all territories which were Islamic at some point in their past.

According to Mediafax news agency, he listed Spain, Bulgaria, Albania, FYROM, Serbia, Kosovo and Bosnia as Muslim territories.
"Spain, for instance, is a Muslim territory. Eastern Europe as well. Romania, Albania, FYROM, Serbia, Kosovo, Bosnia... but due to its decision to send troops to Afghanistan and Iraq and its military cooperation with Israel, Bulgaria is also a legitimate target," Mediafax quoted him as saying.
Bakri Muhammad ran a radical Islamist group, al-Muhajiroun, from north London until it was disbanded in 2004.

Bakri, who lived in London for 20 years, has been banned from returning to Britain after he left the country in the wake of 2005 terrorist attacks.

The Romanian Foreign Minister, Titus Corlatean,  is the only one who reacted to the statements so far. According to him, Romania was "primarily a Christian country".
