Facebook on Thursday began asking certain popular users to upload photos of their government issued identification cards to help the social network test a new accounts verification service, the social network confirmed to TPM.

How Facebook uses numbers to show people, places and things with Graph Search

Facebook released more details about the technical underpinnings of its Graph Search function. The company’s engineers still appear to have plenty more work ahead to improve Graph Search, though.

Facebook engineers posted more details Wednesday on the back end of its Graph Search function, showing how the social network assigns numbers to users, places and other reference points and then lets users form queries and find answers using those numbers.

An increasing number of policymakers and think-tank residents are championing the power of social media and big data to pressure governments, empower civil society, deter human rights abuses through the power of witness, and semi-accurately forecast political instability and conflict without the false positives. In a column today, Thomas Friedman endorsedutilizing existing social networks “to our advantage to gain leverage in diplomacy” by speaking directly to Iranians, Israelis, and Palestinians, who will then somehow force their governments to finally do what they have not (because, of course, ordinary citizens are aligned with U.S. interests once they are addressed in Persian, Hebrew, or Arabic).

«Γκάφα» του Facebook με λογαριασμούς χρηστώνΗ ύπαρξη του κενού διαπιστώθηκε όταν στην ιστοσελίδα Hacker News αναρτήθηκε μήνυμα με συνδέσμους προς περίπου 1.32 λογαριασμούς χρηστών στο Facebook. Αρκετοί από αυτούς τους συνδέσμους οδηγούσαν απευθείας στο προφίλ του χρήστη ως συνδεδεμένου χωρίς να ζητείται ο απαιτούμενος κωδικός πρόσβασης.
Η δυνατότητα εισαγωγής στον λογαριασμό του χρήστη στο Facebook χωρίς την πληκτρολόγηση του κωδικού πρόσβασης αποτελεί μία τεχνική που χρησιμοποιεί το ίδιο το κοινωνικό δίκτυο, προκειμένου να διευκολύνει τους χρήστες.
