Iran nuclear talks closing in on final agreement

With negotiators assembling in Lausanne this week for a critical round of talks on the future of Iran’s nuclear program, the long-running negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program seem to have entered a new stage, with prospects for an agreed political framework more likely.

After eighteen months of intensive diplomacy, the negotiations over the future of Iran’s nuclear program have entered their decisive endgame. Over the next ten or so days, we will learn whether Iran is ready to accepting binding, albeit time-limited, constraints on its nuclear program in exchange for comprehensive sanctions relief from the United States and its partners in the P5+1.

The Budapest Convention and cyber cooperation

The potential ideal of cyberspace has always been a free-flowing, borderless utopia. In this vision, information and ideas travel freely from user to user, with technology overcoming language barriers and common standards ensuring compatibility all around. However, the digital domain is a reflection of the offline world. To keep it running and to maintain security, territory and responsibility have to be demarcated somehow. When an infraction or a dispute takes place, it is natural to turn to the international legal system.

There is no universally accepted international cyber treaty. However, the Council of Europe's Budapest Convention on Cybercrime, which has been in force for a decade and has been ratified by 44 countries, is the closest there is to one. Part of the success of the Budapest Convention can be attributed to its relative flexibility, allowing signatories to choose how they will implement the requirements of the treaty. It seeks to build on existing international cooperation mechanisms, including Mutual Legal Assistance Treaties (MLATs) and extradition agreements.

Top U.S. General in Europe: Arming Ukraine ‘Isn’t a Strategy’

The top U.S. Army commander in Europe questioned whether Washington should provide weaponry to Ukraine to help in its fight against Russian-backed separatists, a proposal gaining increasing support among American officials alarmed by the rebels’ ongoing gains in eastern Ukraine.

Lt. Gen. Ben Hodges conceded to reporters Tuesday that arming Ukraine could help its fragile pro-Western government on the battlefield, at least in the short term. But he said that wouldn’t be enough to fundamentally ensure that Ukraine doesn’t lose more territory to Russia in the wake of Moscow’s annexation of Crimea last year.

Middle East OPEC Oil Rig Count Jumps 14%

As if to rub salt in the wounds of the US shale industry, Middle East OPEC oil rig count has jumped by 19 rigs to 155 units in February 2015 setting a new rig count record for the region. Since 2005 the supergiant oil fields of the region developed symptoms of mortality and increased drilling has been required to combat natural production declines in order to maintain production at static levels.

Ο David Cameron πιστώνεται στο Westminster ότι έχει ενισχύσει την αποφασιστικότητα της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης για πιο αυστηρές κυρώσεις έναντι του καθεστώτος Putin. Καθώς οδηγούμαστε προς τις γενικές εκλογές του Μαΐου, οι σκιές του Ιράκ και της ψήφου της Βουλής εναντίον της στρατιωτικής δράσης στη Συρία το 2013, επικρέμεται πάνω από κάθε συζήτηση εξωτερικής πολιτικής της Βρετανίας. Αυτό έχει οδηγήσει σε ένα πιο έντονο συναίσθημα απομονωτισμού κατά μήκος του πολιτικού φάσματος.

Και οι Ιταλοί ζητούν αποζημιώσεις

Νέα τροπή φαίνεται να παίρνει το ζήτημα των πολεμικών επανορθώσεων στην Ιταλία, μετά από σχετικές προσφυγές στο συνταγματικό δικαστήριο της Ρώμης.

Το καλοκαίρι του 1944 η Τσιβιτέλα, μία κωμόπολη στους λόφους της Τοσκάνης, έζησε εφιαλτικές στιγμές. Ήταν 29 Ιουνίου όταν η Βέρμαχτ μπήκε στην Τσιβιτέλα, λίγες μέρες αφότου τρεις γερμανοί στρατιώτες είχαν πέσει νεκροί σε ενέδρα. «Στις επτά το πρωί ήχησαν οι καμπάνες για την εκκλησία» θυμάται η 83χρονη σήμερα Ίντα Μπαλό. «Η μητέρα μου πήγε στη λειτουργία, εγώ έμεινα στο κρεβάτι μου και ξαφνικά άκουσα πυροβολισμούς. Ήμουν σίγουρη ότι είχαν φτάσει οι Άγγλοι επιτέλους».

Τέταρτη θητεία για τον Νετανιάχου

Έτοιμος για την τέταρτη θητεία του είναι ο πρωθυπουργός του Ισραήλ, Μπέντζαμιν Νετανιάχου, ο οποίος κατάφερε να κερδίσει τις εκλογές της Τρίτης, διαψεύδοντας τις δημοσκοπήσεις που έδιναν προβάδισμα στη Σιωνιστική Ενωση του Ισαάκ Χέρτσογκ.

Με καταμετρημένο το 99.5% των ψήφων, το Λικούντ του Νετανιάχου έχει ήδη καταλάβει 29 ή 30 έδρες στο Ισραηλινό Κοινοβούλιο, έναντι 24 εδρών της Σιωνιστικής Ενωσης.
