EU: TTIP no deregulation agenda

The EU’s Chief Negotiator for the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) said the mammoth EU-US trade deal is not about deregulation, as a third round of talks wrapped up in Washington on December 20.

“I think we can be very satisfied by the end of this third round of talks. We remain on track to deliver an ambitious trade and investment deal which will boost our economies, deliver growth and, more importantly, create jobs for both Europeans and Americans at a time when they're most needed,” said Ignacio Garcia Bercero.

Paul Krugman upset the Bitcoin community over the weekend when he wrote a blog post titled "Bitcoin is Evil."

In the post he said he was "deeply unconvinced" that Bitcoin can actually work as a form of currency. He doesn't think it works as a "store of value" because there isn't anything underpinning it. 
After writing the post, Bitcoin supporters started flogging his inbox with "rage-filled missives," says Krugman in a follow up post.

Natural Gas discoveries in Lebanon

Justifiably, the major gas discoveries in east Mediterranean have spurred enthusiasm across the poor energy countries of the region. According to the US Geological Survey’s (USGS) the 122 Tcf estimated total gas reserves of the Levant Basin Province and the total gas reserves of 345 Tcf in East Mediterranean suffice to satisfy the region’s energy demand almost indefinitely. In the meantime, Lebanon understands that if it wants to achieve energy security or prevent others from drilling from disputed areas it needs to catch up with findings and drilling.

Στην πραγματικότητα, υπάρχουν συχνά στενοί δεσμοί μεταξύ των κατόχων των ιδίων κεφαλαίων και του χρέους των τραπεζών, με την εθνική πολιτική τάξη.

Επιπλέον, το όνειρο της εξυγίανσης τραπεζών χωρίς να καταφύγουμε σε δημόσια χρήματα γίνεται εφιάλτης σε περίπτωση μιας συστημικής κρίσης. Η εμπειρία έχει αποδείξει ότι μια συστημική κρίση μπορεί να πάει από το κακό στο χειρότερο εάν ο δημόσιος τομέας αρνηθεί  να παρέμβει.

Έκρυθμη είναι η κατάσταση πλέον στην Τουρκία, καθώς το σκάνδαλο διαφθοράς που ταλανίζει τη χώρα παίρνει ακόμη μεγαλύτερες διαστάσεις, ενώ η ευθεία παρέμβαση του Ταγίπ Ερντογάν στις έρευνες προκαλεί πολλά ερωτηματικά.
