Προ των πυλών ενός ιστορικού δημοψηφίσματος, το Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο (Η.Β), καλείται στις 23 Ιουνίου να αποφασίσει εάν θα μείνει η όχι στην Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση. Στον απόηχο της προπαγάνδας,  των τρομακτικών ή και λυτρωτικών σεναρίων για την επομένη ημέρα, υπάρχει μια αγορά που σίγουρα θα επηρεαστεί από μια ενδεχόμενη έξοδο και αυτή δεν είναι άλλη από την τεράστια αγορά του ποδοσφαίρου. Ακολουθούν μερικές σκέψεις για τις ενδεχόμενες επιπτώσεις, οι οποίες, τουλάχιστον προς το παρόν, μόνο υποθετικές μένουν και σίγουρα αν είναι προκύψουν, θα είναι μακροπρόθεσμα…

Ένας από τους τομείς που θα επηρεαστούν με βεβαιότητα στο ποδόσφαιρο είναι αυτός των μεταγραφών και της μετακίνησης ανήλικων παικτών προς την Ευρωπαϊκή ένωση ή τις χώρες του Ευρωπαϊκού Οικονομικού Χώρου. Το άρθρο 19 του κανονισμού της της FΙFA για τις μεταγραφές και το status των παικτών θεσπίζει τον γενικότερο κανόνα ότι οι διεθνείς μεταγραφές παικτών επιτρέπονται μόνο αν ο παίκτης είναι άνω των 18, εκτός περιορισμένων εξαιρέσεων. Μια από τις τρεις εξαιρέσεις που θεσπίζονται στα επόμενα άρθρα, είναι ότι επιτρέπεται η μεταγραφή η μετακίνηση του παίκτη αν είναι μεταξύ 16 και 18, μόνο αν αυτή πραγματοποιείται προς τις χώρες της Ευρωπαϊκής ένωσης ή του ΕΟΧ.

Steel and sea issues dominate U.S.-China dialogue

The recent Strategic and Economic Dialogue highlighted the importance of steel production and the South China Sea in U.S.-China relations.

Between 6-7 June, the U.S. and China were engaged in the 8th Strategic and Economic Dialogue (S&ED). The meeting, established by President Obama and former Chinese president Hu Jintao in 2009, has notoriously failed to result in agreements. As a consequence, the forum is widely considered consultative, at best.

Global nuclear weapons: downsizing but modernizing

The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) launched its annual nuclear forces data, which highlights the current trends and developments in world nuclear arsenals. The data shows that while the overall number of nuclear weapons in the world continues to decline, none of the nuclear weapon-possessing states are prepared to give up their nuclear arsenals for the foreseeable future.

At the start of 2016 nine states—the United States, Russia, the United Kingdom, France, China, India, Pakistan, Israel and North Korea—possessed approximately 4,120 operationally deployed nuclear weapons. If all nuclear warheads are counted, these states together possessed a total of approximately 15,395 nuclear weapons compared with 15,850 in early 2015 (see table 1).

Οι υποστηρικτές της εξόδου από την ΕΕ έχουν απεικονίσει τους υποστηρικτές της παραμονής ως πλούσιους Λονδρέζους που δεν έχουν επαφή με την πραγματικότητα - εξ ου και το σχόλιο του υποστηρικτή της εξόδου υπουργού Απασχόλησης, Priti Patel, ότι "Είναι ντροπή το γεγονός ότι αυτοί που ηγούνται της εκστρατείας υπέρ της ΕΕ δεν νοιάζονται για όσους δεν έχουν τα πλεονεκτήματά τους. Το στενό προσωπικό τους συμφέρον, δεν τους επιτρέπει να δώσουν σημασία στα συμφέροντα του ευρύτερου κοινού”. Σε περίπτωση που χρειάζεστε υπενθύμιση, ο David Cameron και ο George Osborne είναι και οι δύο από εύπορες οικογένειες του Λονδίνου και φοίτησαν και οι δύο σε ακριβά ιδιωτικά σχολεία στην περιοχή του Λονδίνου (όπως και ο Boris Johnson και ο Nigel Farage).

Around 50 years after the obliteration of the Indonesian Communist Party (Partai Komunis Indonesia, or PKI), the specter of communism has risen again to seek revenge against the proud nationalists who saved the country from disintegration – at least that’s what Defense Minister Ryamizard Rycadu thinks. For the past few months, hardliners within the military elite have been stoking public anxiety about communism’s re-emergence in Indonesia. Military figures have publicly warned of discreet attempts by communists to launch a revolution and reminded citizens to steer clear of communism or risk imprisonment. Additionally, several organizations associated with the military, most notably the Communication Forum on Indonesian Veterans’ Children (FKPPI), have staged protests and raised bannersacross the island of Java to warn of communism’s potential ascent.

Does EU care about Brexit?

Less than fifteen days before the United Kingdom's (UK) referendum on Brexit, it seems that this topic is not at all on the frontline of public discourse in the European Union (EU). We are just witnessing "black o white" approaches, emphasizing on the dangers of leaving or the merits of staying in the EU.

A number of EU leaders and the President of the United States have stated that a possible exit would damage the UK in the sense that trade transactions and political influence will be severely weakened.
