Η υπερ-προεδρία Ερντογάν βρίσκει και αντιστάσεις

Αιφνίδια ολομέτωπη αντίσταση αντιμετωπίζει ο ισχυρός άνδρας της Τουρκίας, Ρετζέπ Ταγίπ Ερντογάν, στην προσπάθειά του να δημιουργήσει μια υπερ-προεδρία στα πρότυπα του Ρώσου προέδρου Βλαντιμίρ Πούτιν, καθώς η επιχείρηση εδραίωσης της παντοκρατορίας του πυροδοτεί την ανησυχία των κομμάτων της αντιπολίτευσης, που προειδοποιούν ότι θα μπορούσε να υπονομευθεί η κοινοβουλευτική δημοκρατία και να εγκαθιδρυθεί μία εικονική δικτατορία.



Ο Ερντογάν, ιδρυτής του Κόμματος της Δικαιοσύνης και της Ανάπτυξης (ΑΚΡ), κυβέρνησε τη χώρα με εξαιρετικά αυταρχικό τρόπο απ’ όταν έγινε πρωθυπουργός το 2003. Εξαιτίας της απαγόρευσης να διεκδικήσει και τέταρτη θητεία, υποχρεώθηκε τον περασμένο Αύγουστο να μεταπηδήσει στην προεδρία και έκτοτε προσπαθεί να ενισχύσει τις εκτελεστικές εξουσίες του. Η στρατηγική του είναι παρόμοια με αυτήν του Πούτιν, ο οποίος έχει επανειλημμένα μετακινηθεί από την προεδρία στην πρωθυπουργία και ανάποδα, με αποτέλεσμα να διατηρεί τον έλεγχο στη Μόσχα από το 2000.

Since the 1990s, Ghana has experienced a ‘golden age’ of political voice as it emerged from more than 30 years of alternating military and civilian rule. The space for political debate and expression has increased, and this has included a framework of formal rights, largely peaceful elections with two alternations in political power, and the rapid growth of civil society.

On Wednesday, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi — who as defense chief in 2013 appeared to threaten to use Egyptian troops to stop the dam’s construction — had a kumbaya moment in his address to the Ethiopian parliament, promising a new era of trust and friendship between the two nations.

It is tempting to see the British general election, to be held on May 7th, as a pivotal moment in Britain’s relationship with the EU. If the Conservatives form a government, there will be a referendum on Britain’s EU membership by the end of 2017. If Labour does so, there will not. At the time of writing, the election is impossible to call, with both parties neck and neck in the polls, but neither likely to win enough seats for an outright majority.
