Τί σημαίνει Παλαιστίνιος;

Islamic State: Adding Franchises, Not Capabilities

Fears of an expanding Islamic State have again emerged, though perhaps unnecessarily. On March 7, Nigeria's Boko Haram militant group formally pledged its allegiance to the Islamic State in a video purportedly released by Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau. Reports emerged simultaneously that Somalia-based al Shabaab is now divided over whether to align with the Islamic State or remain loyal to al Qaeda. The Islamic State will likely next formally acknowledge Boko Haram's pledge through a prominent spokesman, as it has done in the past with similar realignments.
Boko Haram's move has provoked a great deal of international concern that the Islamic State is extending its global reach, but that would be an exaggeration. The Boko Haram announcement — and other recent pledges — neither increases the Islamic State's capabilities within its self-declared caliphate in Iraq and Syria nor directly increases the threat of Boko Haram.

UK humanitarian aid in the age of counterterrorism: perceptions and reality

For years, British humanitarian NGOs have criticised counter-terrorism laws for undermining their aid operations, and British Muslim NGOs have argued that they have been disproportionately affected by such laws. Banks have placed restrictions on the services they offer to various UK NGOs working in conflicts like Syria and Gaza while other NGOs have been hard hit by allegations of links to terrorism. All of this has affected the work of humanitarian organisations seeking to provide aid in high-risk conflict zones.

The Truth About U.S. Crude Storage

Despite the popular narrative that we keep hearing, the U.S is not running out of crude oil storage. Yet there are those who are predicting that oil prices are going to fall to $20 or $30 a barrel, pointing to the crude oil storage numbers and suggesting that we are near maximum capacity and therefore a price collapse is imminent. (Although Goldman Sachsdid some backpedaling on their forecast this week).
The Truth About U.S. Crude Storage
The argument goes something like this: US running out of room to store oil; price collapse next?

Money v. Principles: Sweden Turns Its Back on Saudi Arabia, Cancels Defense Deal

It’s not often one has the chance to write this sentence and have it actually be true: What a fascinating few months it’s been in Swedish foreign policy!
Money v. Principles: Sweden Turns Its Back on Saudi Arabia, Cancels Defense Deal
In the opening months of the country’s new leftist government, Swedenbecame the first in Europe to recognize the state of Palestine, leading Israel to withdraw its ambassador in protest, and Sweden’s military carried out a frantic hunt for what in all likelihood was a Russian submarine lurking outside Stockholm. The country is now embroiled in a diplomatic standoff with Saudi Arabia after cancelling an arms deal worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Riyadh has now also withdrawn its ambassador and joined the Israelis in venting a hollow kind of indignation over Sweden’s decisions.
