Russian giant Gazprom and SINTEZ withdraw their bids for DEPA and DESFA at Putin's behest. An official statement by Gazprom came after heated speculation on the withdrawal, citing the absence of guarantees that DEPA's financial situation will not deteriorate before the sale is finalized.
Gazprom's Sergei Kupriyanov said that the company is still experiencing major problems with unpaid bills and that the process that would have led up to the sale is long. Some analysts are now concerned that this development might mean even tougher times ahead under an agreement with Greece's international creditors to countermand losses from the Greek privatisation programme with new austerity measures.
